National rural health award highlights MORE Care impact
St. Luke's Miners of Pennsylvania recognized for commitment to medical-dental integration
DentaQuest Institute (DQI) is pleased to share that one of our Medical Oral Expanded Care (MORE Care) collaborative participants, St. Luke’s Miners Rural Health Centers, was named this year’s Outstanding Rural Health Organization at the National Rural Health Association’s (NRHA's) 2018 Rural Health Awards.
The team was honored in New Orleans on May 10 at the NRHA’s 41st Annual Rural Health Conference with NRHA CEO Alan Morgan, pictured below. The Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health, represented at right by Director Lisa Davis, nominated this team in large part due to the team’s commitment to implementing DQI’s MORE Care program in their rural primary care clinics over the last year. Nicole Geary, also right, from St. Luke’s Miners Health Center Nesquehoning office was there to accept the award.
Two of St. Luke’s Miners rural health clinics -- Nesquehoning and Hometown -- have participated in a MORE Care learning collaborative to help integrate oral health services into their pediatric patient visits.
The teams also worked on developing relationships with local dental providers and successfully set up referral relationships that include bi-directional communication between dental and primary care offices, which also improved the patient experience.
The teams at St. Luke’s Miners’ Nesquehoning and Hometown offices have been an excellent example of providing person-centered care through integration and coordination.
