Measuring Oral Health Care Efficacy in New York

Measurement is important to improving oral health. There’s a saying that “If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it.” One of the most important metrics to DentaQuest is the number of children (aged 2 to 20) that have seen a dentist for any kind of visit in a calendar year. Our goal is to get as many children currently covered by DentaQuest insurance to see a dentist for that critical dental health screening. Ideally that would be every child!

Over 2018-2019, we challenged our network dentists and their organizations in New York state to increase the number of DentaQuest eligible members that they see for preventive services. So large and small dentist offices have an equal chance to win an award, we segmented our dental partners into 5 categories: Academic Dental Centers/Hospitals, FQHCs, Large Clinics, Small Clinics, and Specialty Clinics. Points were assigned for the number of dental visits from eligible members, preventive services performed on eligible patients, and the percentage of eligible members seen by the provider organization.

We’d like to congratulate the following dental organizations for excellence over 2018-2019. These are the top three in each category:

We appreciate the important work of our network providers to build relationships with families and make sure children across New York state are getting the basic dental care they need to keep them healthy. It’s a fundamental part of our Preventistry model for health care.
