DentaQuest Institute Appoints Dr. Natalia Chalmers as Director of Analytics and Publication
Dr. Chalmers brings extensive research experience in pediatric dentistry and best practices
BOSTON – The DentaQuest Institute today announced that Natalia Chalmers, D.D.S, Ph.D., has been appointed as the new Director of Analytics and Publication effective Sept. 15, 2015. Under Dr. Chalmers’ direction, the Office of Analytics and Publication will be transforming data and information into actionable insights on effective and efficient care, while also leveraging that knowledge to enhance care and better inform policy and financing.
“With extensive knowledge and experience in dental and medical academia, the DentaQuest Institute is honored to have Dr. Chalmers head our initiative of transforming and improving the oral health care delivery system,” said Dr. Rob Compton, President of the DentaQuest Institute. “As a widely-respected clinician and researcher, Dr. Chalmers will bring a new perspective and vast experience to the Institute as she develops and implements new strategies, tactics, and goals for improving the care system.”
In her new role, Dr. Chalmers will develop policies on data usage, implement research practices and prioritize publication topics. Dr. Chalmers will work closely with external researchers, internal program staff and external authors to coordinate the development of publications. Through this work, the DentaQuest Institute will continue to create and disseminate knowledge to enhance understanding of dental treatment and inform systems decisions that impact oral health.
Prior to joining the DentaQuest Institute, Dr. Chalmers served as a Pediatric Dentist Clinical Research Fellow at the National Institute for Dental and Craniofacial Research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), leading the latest clinical, translational and basic research while providing clinical service to the unique pediatric patient population at the NIH Clinical Center. There, Dr. Chalmers was actively engaged in efforts centered on enhancing the quality of patient care.
She earned her D.D.S. from the Medical University of Sofia (Bulgaria, 1999), and a Ph.D. (2008) and certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry (2012), as well as a Masters in Clinical Research from Duke Medical University (2015). She is a board-certified pediatric dentist and Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (2013). Dr. Chalmers also was the recipient of a National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) T32 Post-Doctoral Fellowship from the Forsyth Institute in Boston, and most recently her work was recognized with the 2014 American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) Paul Taylor Award, given to the most prestigious journal article in pediatric dentistry of the previous year.
In her leadership roles, Dr. Chalmers serves as a fellow with the Pediatric Oral Health Research and Policy Center, expert consultant for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Council on Scientific Affairs, Dean’s Faculty at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, and officer for the International Association for Dental Research Women in Science Network.
