DentaQuest Donation Recognizes 15 Years of Critical Oral Health Outreach in South Texas

Mercy Ministries of Laredo will continue emphasizing preventive care in this high-need community

Mercy Clinic

DentaQuest recently awarded Mercy Ministries of Laredo, which includes Mercy Clinic and Casa de Misericordia, a local grant honoring 15 years of delivering compassionate and high-quality health care to the area’s underserved, uninsured residents.

This $2,500 grant marks DentaQuest’s continued commitment to the region, following a $15,000 donation to Mercy Ministries in 2017. DentaQuest provides Medicaid and CHIP dental coverage statewide serving nearly 2 million members across Texas.

“As a company focused on prevention and holistic health, DentaQuest is committed to supporting community-based, culturally appropriate care that opens doors for adults to get dental care necessary for overall health, as well as to keep or obtain a job,” said Austin-based Joe Vesowate, regional vice president at DentaQuest.

Mercy Clinic is a leader in health care integration, as it combines behavioral health and primary care, including dental care, with a focus on the whole person. More than simply offering emergency dental services such as extractions, fillings, root canals and bridges, Mercy provides instruction on good oral hygiene, as well as education about the relationship between poor oral health and other health issues like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, and tooth loss.

A true living laboratory, Mercy Clinic also hosts UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry students studying preventive dentistry outreach to go into colonias and provide education and dental services, giving future dentists direct patient experience in a critical community setting.

“Mercy Clinic depends on support from the community and corporate citizens like DentaQuest to continue their work,” Vesowate added. “We appreciate the comprehensive work of Mercy Ministries of Laredo to foster improved health and wellness across Webb County.”
