DentaQuest Commits $2 Million to Racial Equity and Social Justice Fund to Help Combat Systemic Racism

Oral Health Leader Urges Other Massachusetts Businesses to Contribute

DentaQuest and the DentaQuest Partnership for Oral Health Advancement today announced a joint $2 million commitment to the New Commonwealth Racial Equity and Social Justice Fund, created by a coalition of Black and Brown corporate leaders in Massachusetts. Dr. Myechia Minter-Jordan, President and CEO of the DentaQuest Partnership, is one of the fund’s founders.

The fund will support organizations working to address equity issues and end systemic racism in Boston and across the state with a focus on police and criminal justice reform, equity in health care, economic empowerment, youth education and civic engagement.

“DentaQuest’s mission to improve the oral health of all is rooted in the pursuit of equity,” said Steve Pollock, DentaQuest President and CEO. “Dr. Minter-Jordan is a driving force to end racial disparities in our health system and address broader systemic racism in our society. Our multi-year funding commitment recognizes the importance of the leadership role she is taking with the fund, and we urge other Massachusetts business leaders to similarly support the fundraising effort.”

Dr. Minter-Jordan is one of 19 founding members of the fund, which is working to raise $100 million from corporations, business leaders and other like-minded supporters. According to Minter-Jordan, “At the DentaQuest Partnership, our approach to philanthropy has always been about driving systems change — in oral health and overall health. We understand all too well the disparities that contribute to inequitable and unjust systems, and we’re excited about the opportunity to make an even bigger impact in Massachusetts through this new fund.”

Minter-Jordan also serves on the COVID-19 Health Inequities Task Force, created by Boston Mayor Marty Walsh to address inequities in data analysis, testing sites and health care services for Blacks, Latinos, Asians and immigrants. “Just as we are looking at data and using it to make better decisions about where we allocate resources in healthcare, we also need to challenge the

status quo on where we invest our philanthropic dollars,” she added. “Getting more financial resources into the hands of Black and Brown-led organizations that are closest to the problems we are working to solve is an important goal of the New Commonwealth Racial Equity and Social Justice Fund.”

The New Commonwealth Racial Equity and Social Justice Fund is a donor-advised fund, administered by the Boston Foundation. To learn more about how to contribute, call (617) 338-2213 or email
